Mathematics A Level at Benfield School

Course description

Mathematics at this level consists of the study of Pure Mathematics and the study of the application of Mathematics to the real world.  The course develops understanding and resourcefulness in the use of Mathematics.

Course content

There are compulsory units containing content that is followed by all exam boards.  Most of this content is concerned with Algebra and its application to questions across all areas of Mathematics.  Additional units includ work on Statistics, which builds on work done at GCSE.  Statistics offers the opportunity to learn how to analyse numerical data in order to make predictions and judgements.

Future opportunities

Students intending to follow a degree path in Mathematics, Computing, Engineering or Physics are likely to find an A-Level in Mathematics is a crucial entry requirement.  Mathematical skills are highly prized in industry and therefore a level 3 Mathematics qualification is a great asset to any student's CV.
