Music Technology Level 3 at Gateshead College
Digital music production systems have revolutionised the modern music industry, affecting both the way music is produced and the way it is sold.
Low cost computer-based production tools mean that it is possible to create professional quality product without the need to spend a fortune on studio time, and compression technologies like MP3 have completely changed the way music is shared.
If you're a budding producer with some experience of using music production technology and want to take your skills and knowledge to the next level, this is the course for you.
Working with experienced teachers, you'll learn how to get the best out of music production technology, including Logic Pro and ProTools. You'll learn how to turn simple music ideas into finished work ready for digital distribution or live performance. Find out how the business works and how you might be able to make a living in it and about sound synthesis, sampling and recording technology.
The programme also covers sound for live performance, for those interested in live sound engineering.
As a National Skills Academy Founder college, you will get access to fantastic opportunities at Metro Radio, Leeds Festival and other live performance venues.
In the past, students have been involved in some great projects, including working at Evolution Festival and BBC Introducing.
You'll also develop your broader employability skills and studying for and take GCSEs or Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications in English or maths if you don't already have them.
- 4 GCSEs grade A*-C and the equivalent of Level 2 English.
- For vocational programmes, it would help to have a relevant qualification at Level 2 or appropriate experience.
- By continual observation of your practical work, projects, assignments, oral and written questions
- Continuous assessment using class based assignments and portfolio of evidence
Once you've completed the course, you could continue your studies with a Foundation or Honours Degree in Music Technology, Music Production or other relevant qualifications in music.
