BTEC Extended Diploma in Interactive Media at Ormiston Horizon Academy

Course description

This course is designed for you if you want to create digital graphics and interative websites. If you have an eye for what makes a good picture and you love working with computers, then our Interactive Media course is a fantastic way to progress. On this practical, work related course you will learn from specialist tutors how to create exciting projects using powerful software packages from Photoshop to Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks and others. Learn to build interactive websites, create animations and compose graphics for electronic formats. You will get a well-developed understanding of the media environment, and gain research, team working and professional skills.

The BTEC Extended Diploma is equivalent  to 3 A Levels.

Course content

First year of course:

Year 1: You will be introduced to new software including Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and Fireworks. You will also be introduced to using a camera, research skills and developing ideas through visual studies. You will learn how to generate new ideas, how to develop them and work through different ways of representing them on screen and on paper.

Second year of course:

Year 2: You will have the opportunities to get involved in live briefs and competitions where the opportunities arise. You will develop skills in your main area of interest working towards putting a portfolio of work together to prepare for university applications and interviews

Entry requirements

Students must achieve 4 A* - C grades at GCSE level. ( Please note that subjects can only be counted once.) Experience shows that successful students at BTEC have previously acquired at least a grade B in this subject at GCSE Level or a Credit grade in Dida.

Assessment

You are continuously assessed throughout the course - informally, as needed, and formally twice a year. You will receive both written and verbal feedback that clearly shows what you are achieving, along with highlighting areas for improvement.

Future opportunities

Learners may wish to gain the qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment  to progress to a higher education foundation degree, HND or other professional development programme. The employment opportunities are very wide ranging and include specialist technical careers in: Photo Imaging, Graphic and Web Design, Animation, Games Design and Audio-Visual Design.
