Applied Science BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Lincoln Castle Academy

Course description

The first reason to study any subject in the Sixth Form is because you are interested in it. Certainly for Science an interest in the world around you, Ecology, Rates of Reaction and Forces, why do these things impact on us? All these are questions that can be answered during the time spent on the course. The subject is one of the key requirements for courses such as Level 3 Applied Science and also for many careers such as teaching or nursing. You will look at patterns in trends of reactivity, and connect them to each other. You can improve your manual dexterity from the using lots of pieces of equipment at the same time. You will also gain an understanding of how Maths is used as a tool to help with calculations of amounts. Candidates choosing this subject in Year 12 may choose other Level 2 or 3 options: Health and Social Care; English and Maths GCSE or maybe Social Sciences where candidates can show that they have the ability to write well constructed ideas, but also to interpret data that is given to them.

Entry requirements

Students will have gained ‘D’ or ‘E’ grades in GCSE Science and wish to spend one year gaining the equivalent of two ‘C’ grades.

Future opportunities

Science is an extremely valuable Level 2 qualification and many future opportunities require a ‘C’ grade or above for example teaching, nursing, careers requiring degree level studying and engineering.
