WHAT DOES THE SUBJECT INCLUDE?

The Diploma will provide you with the opportunity to build on knowledge obtained from level 2 studies and further enhance your knowledge and understanding in the world of outdoor activities. Practical sessions form an important aspect of the course enabling you to develop skills that are needed to perform outdoor techniques and accurately navigate yourself to certain points in the outdoors. Theory sessions help with underpinning knowledge related to the work that is done in practical sessions.

The course is made up of 180 credits over 2 years, with units being valued at either 5 or 10 credits. Each of which is assessed by a range of methods including written assessments, role play, presentations and practical activities.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s at C Grade or a Level 2 Sports qualification at pass grade. Students are required to be self-motivated, disciplined and to take a degree of responsibility for their own learning.

Successful college interview.

Assessment

Delivery of this course incorporates both theoretical and practical elements. Student participation is valued and essential in all practical units. Learners will have the opportunity to gain a range of additional qualifications in the field of sport and exercise, such as first aid, sports leader’s awards and National Governing Body coaching certificates. Some of these qualifications may incur costs but these will be kept to a minimum.

Future opportunities

Successful completion provides the opportunity to gain the equivalent of 3 A Levels which can lead students onto Higher Education (University) or employment in an outdoor adventure establishment or within the Sport, Leisure and Recreation sectors.
