Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at Nower Hill High School
Students interested in the theory and performance of Drama. Building on the philosophy of the GCSE syllabus, the emphasis is on Drama and Theatre Studies as a practical, intellectual and artistic subject. Students examine the use of theatrical forms and genre in relation to the exploration and performance of plays. Students also study how plays relate to the social, cultural and historical contexts in which they are created and / or performed.
As well as learning performance and directing skills and taking part in workshops, you’ll also study important traditional and contemporary plays. Studying different plays, styles and approaches will engage and stimulate you in conversation and exploration. This will develop your analytical and evaluative skills. Visits to the theatre will play a key role in helping you acquire a deeper understanding of drama. There will also be the opportunity to devise a completely original performance.
