Government and Politics at Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

At AS students study two units.

UNIT 1 People, Politics and participation Focuses on participation in politics, political parties, pressure groups and electoral systems.

UNIT 2 Governing modern Britain Looks at the political process and institutions at the heart of British politics.

At A2 students study two modules in American politics. This provides them with a thorough understanding of all aspects of U.S. politics and the ability to compare and contrast to U.K. politics.

Entry requirements

All students need to have an interest in politics and current affairs. Students will be expected to read quality newspapers/look at their websites in order to follow political stories. The ability to discuss, share your questions and debate are essential. It is essential that you achieve grade C GCSE in English and/or a humanities subject.
