Course description

Sociology is the systematic study of society. A wide range of topics are studied, including: Culture and Identity, Families and Households, Wealth, Poverty and Welfare, Education, Health, Sociological Methods, Belief in Society, Global Development, Mass Media, Power and Politics, Crime and Deviance, Stratification and Differentiation, and Theory and Methods.

Course content

A variety of teaching and learning approaches will be used with the traditional note-taking existing side by side with discussion work and individual presentations. Lessons will involve using textbooks, newspapers, journals and videos. You may work independently for a week or two compiling relevant data and ideas gleaned from the most up to date resources whether newspapers, television or the Internet. Support from your teacher will be available on request.
