Course content

 

AS Level

Unit 1

·         Cognitive Psychology – Memory including models of memory and memory in everyday life

·         Development Psychology – Early Social Development, including theories of attachment, disruption of attachment and attachment in everyday life

·         Research Methods

 

Unit 2

·         Biological Psychology – Stress, including stress as a bodily response and stress in everyday life

·         Social Psychology- Social Influence, including conformity, obedience and social change

·         Individual Differences – Abnormality, including defining and explaining psychological abnormality and treating abnormality

A2 Level

Unit 3

·         3 topics from Relationships, Intelligence and Learning, Perception and Aggression

 

Unit 4

·         Psychopathology:  Either schizophrenia, depression or anxiety disorders

·         Psychology in Action – anomalistic psychology

Psychology Research and Scientific Method, including the application of scientific method in psychology, designing psychological investigations and data analysis and reporting on investigations

Entry requirements

 

·         An interest in why people think and behave in a certain way

·         A desire to develop an interest and enjoyment in Psychology

·         No prior knowledge of Psychology is needed however an aptitude for Science is highly recommended.

·         Grade A* – B GCSE in English

·         8 A* – C passes at GCSE

Assessment

 

AS

·         Each unit is worth 50% of total AS mark and 25% of the total A Level mark

·         Both units have written exams of one and a half hours

·         Unit 1 will be examined in January of Year 12

A2

·         Each unit is worth 25% of the total A Level mark

·         Both units have written exams

·         Unit 3 is one and half hours and Unit 4 is 2 hours

·         Unit 3 will be assessed in January of Year 13
