Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing at Bournville College

Course description

The course is intended for those who want to gain basic skills and knowledge in order to gain entry into the plumbing and building services engineering industry.

Course content

Structure of the construction industry
Fundamental safe working practices
Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
Site preparation for working in the construction industry
Above ground drainage
Copper pipework
Plastic pressure pipework
Low carbon steel pipework
Installation, repair and maintenance or plumbing systems
Plumbing science

Entry requirements

Preferably English, Maths and ITC GCSE’s at Grades A-C. All applicants will be given an aptitude test and on successful completion, will be given an interview to discuss application. You will need to demonstrate motivation and a keen interest in the Plumbing and Building Services Engineering industry.


The assessments will consist of paper based examinations to be completed and passed at the end of each unit. There will also be a practical task manual to be completed in the workshop throughout the year.

Future opportunities

You can progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing Studies.
