At least a B grade in English Language At least a B grade in English Literature.

Assessment

AS: 100% Written Examination

Section A: One two-part question based on the reading of one pre-1900 poetry text

Section B : One question from a choice of two based on two post-1900 poetry texts

Written examination Section A – Shakespeare Section B – Drama

One question based on the reading of a pair of plays: one pre-1900 and one post-1900

A Level

Written examination Section A – Pre-1900 Poetry

Section B – Post-1900 Poetry

Written examination Section A – Shakespeare Section B – Drama

Written examination Section A – Unseen prose Section B – Unseen poetry

3 x written exams 80%

Coursework 20%

The 16-19 Bursary Fund is made available from the Government – to provide assistance to students whose access to, or completion of, education is inhibited by financial constraints or barriers. Further information regarding eligibility and application forms are available from the sixth form.

Future opportunities

A Level English Literature is recognised as a quality A Level by all universities as it encourages a scholarly approach to looking at text and enables students to write with insight and clarity.
