Dance A-Level at Whitefield School

Course description

A Level Dance allows students to study a subject which can be extended through higher education and promotes a healthy lifestyle through an awareness of the importance of exercise and training.

A Level Dance helps students to think critically about Dance as an art form, develop their knowledge for the study of Dance in higher education and experience performance and choreography through practice.

Course content

A Level Dance requires students to study four units of work. The units include, understanding Dance, choreography and performance, dance appreciation, group choreography and solo performance.

Entry requirements

There are no previous learning requirements. However, I would recommend that students have had some training in Classical Ballet or contemporary dance. The course is based around contemporary dance and also requires students to sit a written examination.

The A-level Dance specification requires students to complete four units, consisting of two written examinations, one practical examination and one controlled assessment unit.

Future opportunities

This course provides a strong foundation to higher education in Dance, Performing Arts and PE professional training and professional employment.
