Outdoor Activity Leadership L2 Certificate at Bishop Auckland College

Course description

A career as an activity leader can be an extremely rewarding one, with lots of memorable experiences. Our outdoor education training courses will further develop your team work and leadership skills, linked to the outdoor activity setting.

Course content

This course is taught over 3 days, and includes Maths & English (where not already achieved at GCSE Grade C or above), tutorials and Work Experience.

Topics you will cover include: – Organising an activity session at an outdoor centre – Responding to health emergencies for outdoor centre staff – Develop a personal effectiveness profile and action plan – Develop positive working relationships – Explore and understand natural environments through field study activities – Level 2 Award in assisting expedition leadership – Duke of Edinburgh Award. Assessment opportunities will involve practical tasks on site at the College as well as further afield during field trips, as well as written tasks and portfolio building. You will undertake a mandatory work experience placement with a relevant employer as part of this programme.

Future opportunities

Our outdoor education programme will further develop your team work and leadership skills and you will acquire additional skills within health and safety and risk assessment. You will also develop skills to help you manage different types of parties including those with additional or specific support needs. You will get to go on residential trips across the UK to develop your climbing, hiking and navigation skills.

If you gain suitable grades you may progress on to a Level 3 course in Sport or Uniformed Services, an Apprenticeship in College or into employment in the outdoor activities industry.
