Further Mathematics A Level at Northolt High School

Course description

Further Mathematics involves studying both pure and applied modules. Whilst the pure modules are of a higher standard than those in the standard course, the applied modules need not be. The topics coveered by Further Mathematics are more sophisticated and conceptually advanced compared to the single A Level Mathematics. Further Mathematics is designed to stretch and challenge able mathematicians and prepare them for university courses in mathematics and related quantitative and scientific subjects.

A* grade in GCSE Maths

Future opportunities

Any student applying to study a degree in a STEM subject (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) should consider taking Further Mathematics. Further Mathematics is also recommended for courses such as Economics and Finance.

It is also considered to be a valuable qualification for admissions to Oxford and Cambridge as well as Russell Group Universities.
