Performance Studies A2 at University Academy Keighley
The course aims to develop knowledge and understanding of performance texts, genres and practitioners in the performing arts. It will develop skills of analysis in the study of performance texts and genres.
The AS GCE is both a ‘stand alone’ qualification and the first half of the corresponding Advanced GCE. In the AS, students will complete 2 units that make up 50% of the A level course. The course aims to develop knowledge and understanding of performance texts, genres and practitioners in the performing arts. It will develop skills of analysis in the study of performance texts and genres. Students will be involved in performance activities and develop skills as a performer, understanding the processes leading to performance, knowledge of performance contexts and understanding to the relationship between performer and the audience.Students will be able to use their imagination, creativity and sensitivity in the performance contexts, together with the ability to work individually and in groups. The course is assessed both internally and externally through written exam, written coursework and practical exams. Written work makes in 50% of the course.
Must have a grade C or above in GCSE English Language. A C or above in Drama, Music or Expressive Arts is desirable, but an aptitude for the arts, commitment and energy is essential.
Year Two – A2Unit 3G403 Performance Contexts 2: A written exam on The Twentieth Century American Musical.Three musicals are studied from which nine extracts are studied, 3 in Drama, 3 n Dance and 3 in Music.15%Unit 4G404 Performance Project: Students will undertake 2 performances:1). An extract of one of the works studied in Performance Contexts 1 or 3.2). A student devised performance in response to a commission set by the exam board.35%
