Year 12 ContentIn the AS year of this course you will complete two units.Unit 1: Application of Physiological and Psychological KnowledgeThe first unit, Application of Physiological and Psychological Knowledge, aims to improve performance as well as developing knowledge on Contemporary Issues surrounding physical activity. This unit helps to build a greater understanding of the structure of the Human Body and how it responds during the performance of a variety of physical activities.Unit 2: Performance and its Improvement through Critical AnalysisThe second unit is Performance and its Improvement through Critical Analysis. This unit focuses on the acquisition and development of physical skills and then how skills need to be practiced in order to be performed as specific movements or activities, which are then repeated consistently with precision.Year 13 ContentThe A2 year consists of two further units.Unit 3: Sports Psychology, Exercise Physiology and Comparative StudiesThe first studied at A2 is Sports Psychology, Exercise Physiology and Comparative Studies. In Comparative Studies, we build upon the contemporary studies unit and study various types of culture to establish relationships between physical education and culture in the U.S.A, Australia and the U.K. In Sports Psychology we investigate the important role that the human mind has prior to, during, and after the performance. This Exercise Physiology unit looks at how the structure and function of the body changes as a result of exercise.Unit 4: Improvement of Effective Performance and Critical Evaluation of Practical ActivitiesThe final unit is the Improvement of Effective Performance and Critical Evaluation of Practical Activities with synoptic assessment. In this unit, student skills are developed and then assessed in performance situations which require a wide range of acquired and developed skills to be performed with unconscious fluency, and adapted easily to varying conditions and circumstances. The synoptic element requires students to draw upon all theoretical disciplines studies across the two years to form relevant links.
Subject specific entry requirements may apply but as a minimum you should provide 7 GCSEs grades A* - C. Please see our website for full admissions criteria. Students require a grade B or above in Physical Education, English and Biology GCSE
