Course description

This is a course for students who would like to study or work in science, get practical experience and knowledge of working in a laboratory or in the field and those considering a career in laboratory work or practical-based applications of science such as Forensic Science. This course is perfect for you!

Course content

Core Units for Year 12 subjects studied are fundamentals of science and working in the science industry Year 12 – Scientific Practical Techniques. Year 13 - Specialist units.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s at Grade C or above including Maths and English and at least Double Science (or a suitable Vocational Science.

Assessment

Year 12: Portfolio – Certificate in Applied Science Year 13: Portfolio – Certificate in Applied Science

Further information

A variety of teaching methods are used including formal lessons, group work, discussion and practical work. Homework is regularly set and must be completed to succeed on this course. Final assessment is based on portfolios externally moderated and assessed examinations. As the course is based on coursework, you will be expected to do private study and there will be assignments to meet with strict deadlines.
