Chemistry at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi
This course aims to encourage students to develop their interest in and enthusiasm for the subject, including developing an interest in further study and careers in Chemistry. Students will develop an appreciation of how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how Chemistry contributes to the success of the economy and society as well as a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works.
The course is intended to cater for candidates who are:
- Continuing with further studies in Chemistry.
- Requiring a chemical background for study in other subject areas including scientific and medical studies.
- Seeking opportunities to develop their skills within a chemical scientific context.
- Entering directly into employment.

Unit 1 – Atoms, bonds groups (F321)
Unit 2 – Chains, energy and resources (F322)
Unit 3 – Practical skills in Chemistry 1 (F323)
Year 13 Programme of Study
Unit 1 – Rings, Polymers and Analysis (F324)
Unit 2 – Equilibria, Energetics and Elements (F325)
Unit 3 – Practical skills in Chemistry 2 (F326)
Year 12 Assessment
Unit 1 – 1 Hour written paper (Weighting – 30% AS, 15% A2)
Unit 2 – 1 Hour 45 minutes written Paper (Weighting – 50% AS, 25% A2)
Unit 3 – Internal assessment (Weighting – 20% AS, 10% A2)
Year 13 Assessment
Unit 1 – 1 Hour written paper (Weighting – 15% A2)
Unit 2 – 1 Hour 45 minutes written Paper (Weighting – 25% A2)
Unit 3 – Internal assessment (Weighting – 10% A2)
