Apprenticeship (Intermediate Level 2) in Beauty Therapy in partnership with Armonia Hair & Beauty at Garforth Academy

Course description

Apprenticeships by Armonia Hair and Beauty are working in partnership with HABITS at Garforth Academy. Armonia Hair and Beauty are an industry leader providing high standard apprenticeships with a 100% success rate.

You will attend HABITS Garforth Academy for your training and work a minimum of 30 hours for an employer. Apprentices attend HABITS one day per week, and work for their employer the rest of the time.


Course content

Studying this qualification will enable you to build, develop and enhance your skills and knowledge to cover a range of treatments needed for a career as a professional beauty therapist. You will be required to work closely with clients and will need the ability to put them at ease, and generally be pleasant and personable.

What will I study?

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy

Ensure responsbility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety

Promote  additional services or products to clients

Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work

Provide facial skin care treatment

Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and lashes

Carry out waxing services

Provide manicure services

Provide pedicure services

Fulfil salon reception duties

Provide make-up services

Functional Skills in Maths and English Level 1


Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above or Pass at Key Stage 4 Habits course. Student may be required to find employer willing to support.

Some employers available through Academy – selection process will take place for these.


For the NVQ you will build up a portfolio, which is a collection of examples or evidence of your work that demonstates your skills and ability, such as a work diary, photos, statements from your employer and colleagues and examples of completed tasks. Assessment consists of practical tasks, observations, oral questioning, written questions and written tests. Students will be required to bring their own models for assessment.

The Functional Skills are assessed through online tests.

Future opportunities

After achieving you will find that you have improved your full-time employment prospects and will be in an ideal situation to progress to such positions as beauty therapist consultant. On successful completion you can also progress onto a specialised Level 3 Beauty Therapy pre-employment course or Advanced Apprenticeship which could lead into fashion, television or cruise ship work.


Further information

Maths and English (and sometimes IT) are key elements of apprenticeship programmes and if you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C in these subjects you will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate levels.

Skills in Maths and English will support your apprenticeship programme, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university course require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C.
