Business BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at The City of Liverpool College

Course description

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Business is a 1 year programme, aimed at 16-18 year olds. It is designed to give students the knowledge, understanding and skills needed for employment in business.

Course content

Mandatory Units

The team will select optional units from a bank of 37 in order to give students the opportunity to achieve the 60 credits required to obtain the qualification. Units such as Business Accounting, Creative Product Promotion, Supply Chain and Stock Management, Business Ethics, Human Resource Management in Business, Developing Teams in Business, Managing a Business Event, Aspects of Contracts and Business Law, Business Project Management, Understanding Retailing, Fashion Retailing, Business and the Economic Environment, and Business Markets and the Economy will be considered as potential options.

Additional Study

In addition, there is an option for students to complete a Level 3 Diploma in Financial Studies (IFS course). This can provide up to 120 UCAS points over 2 years. This qualification will enhance the opportunities to progress onto higher education and/or to a career in financial services. Students are strongly recommended to take this option in addition to the main course.

Entry requirements

The normal entry requirements are 4 GCSEs at grade C and above, including English Language. Applications will be considered from students who have completed a Level 2 Diploma in Business at Merit grade and above, and have a C grade or above in GCSE English Language. Students over 19 years old will be asked to sit an initial assessment test set by the college in English and Maths and achieve at least a level 2 GCSE A-C standard. Some students may also be required to attend any provision created by the course team to improve the levels of English and Mathematics.

Future opportunities

The course will prepare students for employment or advancement at work. In addition, students will have the opportunity to progress onto a second year BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business course. Students will benefit from the course as this will provide them with the knowledge and skills required to start their own business, or to seek employment in a business organisation. Progression onto the second year will be at the discretion of the course leader subject to performance and level of attendance during the first year of the course. The course complies with the new Qualification Credit Framework.
