Economics A Level at Bourne Grammar School

Course description

At a time when economics is constantly in the headlines, this course will develop a student’s ability to appreciate and comment upon the primary forces that will shape the livelihoods of billions of people over the coming century. In a globalised, integrated world, understanding these forces has never been more necessary or relevant. A successful student will be able to discuss current economic events such as the causes and consequences of the on-going Euro crisis, the rise of China, India and Brazil as key economic players, and the impacts of government policies, both at home and abroad, on inflation, employment, economic growth and the welfare of citizens. A student will explore how governments make economic decisions which contribute directly to the well-being of society, and evaluate the trade offs and compromises that face key decision makers.
The skills and knowledge fostered by Economics at AS and A Level are viewed favourably by employers and higher education institutions. The qualification is therefore highly regarded by leading universities in the UK.
