Work Based Land Based Operations (Arboriculture) - C&G Level 1 Diploma at East Durham College

Course description

You will cover a mixture of theory and practical activities and will work to collect evidence throughout the year of the skills that you are gaining. This work will then be used to build a portfolio of evidence for the course. The Houghall Campus estate provides the ideal environment for you to gain practical skills and knowledge and also gives you the opportunity to develop essential employability skills.

Course content

Topics: 

Topics covered in the course: Maths & English, Health and safety and safe working practices, Work experience, habitat management, planting, cross cutting and stacking, working with trees, maintenance of structures and surfaces.

 

Entry requirements

Direct entry - Minimum of 3 GCSEs or equivalent (Progress to functional skills (Entry 3) Progression entry - An Entry 3 qualification (Minimum entry 2 maths and English)

Assessment

You will be assessed throughout the course through written tasks and practical activities.

Financial information

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

Future opportunities

Following completion of this course you may gain employment in the land-based sector, e.g. assisting in the forestry industry.

Further information

Following successful completion of the course, progression options include the level 2 diploma in arboriculture, a Level 2 Diploma in Practical Horticultural Skills or Level 2 Work Based Diploma in Environmental Conservation. Apprenticeship routes are also available at Level 2 in forestry and arboriculture.
