Drama & Theatre Studies at St Mary's Catholic School

The WJEC Drama and Theatre Studies 'A' level will enable students to form judgements about live performance and develop their understanding of post and pre 1900 drama and theatre. Students will engage in a series of workshops, research tasks and seminars, the main focus of which will be practitioners of theatre including Stanislavski, Brecht and Artaud.
The students will develop and consolidate their understanding of staging and theatrical context in relation to the socio-economic political back-drop of a given era. Students will engage in practical drama workshops and rehearsals which will lead to performances which are internally examined and externally moderated in the first year, and externally examined in the second.
B in Drama.
Assessment is delivered through practical examination in both the first and second year of the course.These examinations are focused on acting skills and the delivery of theatrical concept in a practical context. Additionally, written examinations focused on the study of play texts from the perspective of the actor/director occur in both the AS and A2 courses.
