Public Services Level 3 at Coleg y Cymoedd

Course description

This two year, full-time course is designed for young people over the age of 16 who would like to gain employment in the uniformed public services sector.

It is also suitable for learners who would like to enter employment in an operational role or in an office-based role supporting the uniformed public services.

Course content

The core units give learners the essential foundation needed to understand the public services sector. You will study units such as Government; Policies and the Public Services; Leadership and Teamwork; Citizenship and Diversity; Understanding Discipline.

Specialist units provide the learners with a realistic picture of the uniformed public services and the requirements of the functional areas.

Entry requirements

You will requrie 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C including Maths and English/Welsh, or completion of a full vocational programme at Level 2 with overall merit grade. Level 2 programme must also include GCSE Maths & English/Welsh at grades A*-C or equivalent such as Level 2 ESW Communications and Application of Number. Plus satisfactory references.

You will be invited to attend an interview. During this interview and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.


To gain the Level 3 in Public Services you must complete internal assessments in all units. Assessment will cover practical skills, oral questioning, assignment work and written questions. All units are assessed, graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

Future opportunities

After successfully completing the course you could progress to university to study a related course. You could also apply for employment in the sector.
