Who is this qualification for?
The Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed beautician/beauty specialist. This qualification is based on the beauty therapy National
Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading professional bodies (The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for
a career as a junior beautician/beauty specialist.
Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in beauty therapy and/or a successful skills test and interview.
What does this qualification cover?
This qualification has been specifically designed for the 16-19 age group, and will develop the knowledge skills to prepare learners for employment as a junior beautician/beauty specialist. Learners will have their beauty therapy skills assessed in a real
or realistic working environment.
This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior beautician/beauty specialist including: removing hair using waxing techniques, applying make-up, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, manicure, pedicure, facial skincare, client
care, health and safety and fulfilling salon reception duties.
Learners will further develop their understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: tanning techniques, instructing on make-up application, removing hair using sugaring or threading techniques, eyelash perming, ear piercing and nail art techniques. This qualification's structure provides learners with the flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a junior beautician/beauty specialist.
It is recommended that candidates have reached a level of education where they are expected to achieve five GCSE’s or equivalent at grades A*-C prior to commencing the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Techniques and all learners will be invited to attend an interview.
This qualification will be internally and externally assessed. Once all of the treatment evidence documentation, assignments and underpinning knowledge have been completed, the Learner will have a final practical examination carried out by the ITEC External Examiner.
The cost for the basic kit and uniform is included in the course fee. Additional resources may be purchased by the learner if they so wish.
What could this qualification lead to?
Career opportunities exist in a variety of contexts as a junior beautician / beauty specialist, including:
- Commercial beauty salons
- Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a junior beautician/beauty specialist, learners may choose to develop their skills further by undertaking Technical Level qualifications in beauty therapy at Level 3, these include:
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (QCF)
