A Level Design & Technology: Product Design at Chiltern Hills Academy

Course description

Year 1 AS Level

The course is split into two units although there is an overlap of knowledge and skills:

Two hour written examination on materials, components and application (50% of total AS marks)

Coursework, approximately fifty hours (50% of total AS marks, 25% of total A2 Level marks.)

Year 2 A2 Level

To achieve a full A Level a further two units need to be studied:

Design and manufacture - a two hour written examination (25% of A Level marks)

Coursework, approximately 60 hours (25% of total A Level marks).

Entry requirements

Students embarking on AS and A2 Level study in Product Design are expected to have achieved at least grade C in a GCSE Graphic Products and Resistant Materials or Textiles. Students who achieve at least a C in GCSE D&T Food would not be excluded from taking this course; however, they would need to be fully prepared to work hard to improve their making skills with materials.
