Course description

What is a BTEC First Certificate?

This is a work related qualification and provides a broad educational base for further training, further education or for employment within performing arts or dance.

It prepares young people for careers in performing arts and motivates learners via applied learning and assessment. BTEC qualifications are recognised by employers and educational institutions and provides a good progression route to more advanced qualifications e.g. BTEC Nationals

Course content

The course consists of one core unit plus two specialist units that provide for a combined total of 180 guided learning hours for the completed qualification.

Assessment

Assessment:

All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. Your course is assessed on the evidence provided by you, the student. Evidence consists of work you produce in the form of assignments and projects in which you show you have learned the range of skills set down by BTEC. Each unit is graded at pass, merit and distinction. The units can be externally assessed. All units are assessed internally using the evidence you produce. Your work will be assessed on a regular basis and you will be given constructive feedback so that you can continually improve your performance.

A BTEC Extended Certificate prepares you for employment and provides a good grounding to progress to a more advanced course such as:

BTEC National Diploma, Certificate or Award in Performing Arts

BTEC Higher National Award in Performing Arts

BTEC Degree Programme in Performing Arts

Future opportunities

You may go on to further study or training or employment within areas of performing arts, dance and theatre. Progression to Level 3, AS/A2 Level, AVCE, BTEC Award, Advanced Diploma Level 3, Progression Diploma Level 3, NVQ 3, Advanced Apprenticeship in related subjects, Access to HE
