Course description

...you like to practice the formulation and construction of reasoned argument in the applied context of a legal framework.

Course content

This course is ideal for students who prefer a more practical assignment based way of studying law. It is ideal for students who prefer to take a direct vocational route into the legal profession or as part of your entry qualifications to higher education study of the subject. The qualification includes:

  • Dispute solving in the legal system - examines the way the courts and legal system operate
  • Understanding law making - explores and evaluates how law is made, both by Parliament and the judges
  • Aspects of legal liability - an introduction to the study of crime (non-fatal offences) and tort (negligence)

The second year consists of three specialist units:

  • Unlawful homicide and police powers - considers the law of murder and manslaughter and police powers in the investigation of crime
  • Aspects of property offences and police powers - explores property offences such as theft, burglary and robbery
  • Aspects of family law - considers a wide range of family law issues such as the rights of children

Entry requirements

Grades 9-4 in English and Maths and three or more GCSEs at grades A*-C. 

Additional guidance is available at interview. 

Assessment

100% coursework

Future opportunities

This is a recognised vocational qualification and can lead to a range of jobs in the legal profession. Students can also use the qualification to progress to higher education.

Further information

Students will have the chance to go on various trips to London, go visit court rooms and speak to law specialists.
