GCSE Child Development at Appleby Heritage Centre

Course description

This qualification covers all aspects of development of children up to the age of 5 years.

Course content

Course content includes:-

Parenthood-planning and preparing for a family

Pregnancy- reproduction, pregnancy and birth

Diet, health and care of the child- feeding, weaning, first aid and safety

Development of the child-areas of development, learning and play

Support for the parent and child-child care and education provision

Assessment

During the first year, students will undertake a research task, which carries 20% of the final mark. The child related research is selected by the students.

In the second year students undertake a study of a child under the age of 5 years over a 6 month period. They build a portfolio of work covered with an examination at the end of the course.
