Performing and Production Arts - Musical Theatre UAL Level 3 Diploma at Doncaster College

Course description

The Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) is a one year course designed to introduce you to the skills needed to become a Professional Performer. 

You learn through practical performance workshops, rehearsals and live performance projects both on stage and in front of a camera. 

All activities will be underpinned by developing core Musical Theatre skills and techniques. The Course is equivalent to 1.5 A levels.

Course content

The course is made up of practical and theory projects and workshops giving learners the opportunity to expand their horizons within the field of Performing Arts musical theatre and specific disciplines.

These include singing techniques, variety performance skills, jazz dance, principles of acting and understanding production elements of performance.

Entry requirements

  • 4 GCSEs grades A*-C including English
  • or a BTEC/UAL equivalent at Merit
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English
  • All applicants must attend an interview and audition.

Assessment

​Functional skills are embedded throughout the course, you may be required to take an exam and/or complete a portfolio to achieve these.

The course is made up of a number of units and assessments of these units will be through practical workshops and performance and an on-going portfolio. Final assessments will take place at the end of the year in the shape of a collaborative performance.

Future opportunities

Previous students have gone on to study Performing Arts at degree level at Universities, Drama Schools and Stage schools.

Opportunities exist to enter the performing arts business within holiday camps and animation team activities, film and TV extra work and various roles within light entertainment industry, but further training would be recommended to achieve employment in many professional job roles.

Many learners will progress onto degree level courses at University or Drama/Stage School. Past learners have successfully secured places East 15, London Studios and University of Chichester.
