Sport & Exercise Science BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Brooklands College

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science will give learners an in-depth understanding of the Sport and Active Leisure sector, whilst also developing the essential skills required for employment, career progression, or progression to further qualifications and training.

Throughout the course, additional activities and courses may be undertaken. These could include the CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing and First Aid.  You will also benefit from a period of 2 weeks work experience.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in sport and who wants to gain a qualification to go into employment within the Sport, Health & Fitness industry, Sports Rehab, Nutrition and Sport Science or onto a Sport related Higher Education Course/Degree.  Students must be willing and able to participate in physical activity, as this is a requirement to achieve certain components of the course. The course is a combination of theory and practical units.

Course content

During the course you will cover 18 units:

• Research Methods for Sport and Exercise Science
• Research Project for Sport and Exercise Science
• Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology
• Applied Sport and Exercise Physiology
• Sports Injuries

Plus units from a range of areas including:
• Instructing Physical Activity
• Outdoor Adventurous Activities
• Fitness Training Programming
• Sports Development

Entry requirements

5 GCSE passes (3 at grade C or above and 2 at grade B or above) including English Language and a Science related subject.

Assessment

Modules are assessed individually through coursework and assignments set, these are marked by both internal and external moderators.

Financial information

There is an initial voluntary contribution to be paid at the start of the course for materials and equipment.  You would also be expected to make a voluntary contribution if you wanted to take part in any opportunities that arose throughout the course such as trips and additional qualifications (e.g. coaching badges). More details on costs will be provided during the application stages.

Future opportunities

This qualification will provide entry to a related Degree or Higher National Diploma. Students have progressed to degrees in areas such as Sports Science, Physical Education Teacher Training, and Sports Rehabilitation. It is also good preparation for anyone who wants to move straight into the Sports, Leisure or Health & Fitness industries.
