Biology A Level at Sheffield Park Academy

Course description

The aims of this course are to encourage students to:

Develop their interest in and enthusiasm for biology, including developing an interest in further study and careers in biology.

Appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society.

Develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of How Science Works .

Develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of biology and how they relate to each other.


Course content

During Year 1 you will study:

  • Biology and disease
  • The variety of living organisms
  • Practical Assessment

During year 2 you will study:

  • Populations and environment
  • Control in cells and organisms
  • Practical Assesment

Entry requirements

At least a grade 5 in GCSE Science (not GCSE equivalents)


This course is assessed thorug an assessed practical and written exams at the end of the  year.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course in combination with other courses, can lead directly to a wide range of higher education courses. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your time at VI Form
