English Literature at All Saints School

Course description

English Literature is a fascinating subject which helps students to explore cultural, aesthetic and ethical issues, and to analyse the imaginative and technical language of Literature and the experiences it embodies. It will increase life-long pleasure in reading, writing fiction, going to the theatre etc as well as giving context and understanding to most human issues.

The course involves the study of texts, both modern and pre-twentieth century, and includes poetry, prose and drama. Work is based on a wide range of texts. Students will be given opportunities to access workshops, discussions, theatre and other visits. The course is assessed through 2 modules in Year 12 for A/S and 2 in Year 13 for A2. Some modules will involve written exams and others coursework. The breadth of skills, pleasures and insights English Literature brings means that it combines well with virtually every other subject, either by developing similar areas or by contrast.
