Suppporting Teaching and Learning in PE and Sport - Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship at East Surrey College

Course description

This new Advanced Apprenticeship is designed as a pathway into a career in teaching, delivering and instructing school sport and PE. You will learn how to deliver, plan, organise and assess the learning of children in a range of environments including the community and schools. This is an ideal progression route from an Intermediate Activity Leader or Coaching Apprenticeship.

Course content

Units/topics covered:
 
 Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adult
 Schools as organisations
 Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people
 Understand child and young person development
 Support assessment for learning
 Plan a physical education and school sport programme
 Deliver a physical education and school sport programme
 Review the delivery of a physical education and school sport programme
 Organise and lead a sport event or competition
 Preparing for the mentoring role
 Support gifted and talented learners
 Facilitate community-based sport and physical activity
 

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for an Apprenticeship but you must be in paid work for a minimum of 30 hours per week. It is essential you have the right mind-set for working full time and studying at the same time. Having a can-do attitude, being flexible and reliable are also important. You must also be able to communicate effectively with others.

Assessment

Practical on-the-job training with knowledge based assignments. End of unit tests for Maths and English Functional Skills.

Financial information

If you are under 19 on 31/08/2014, tuition is free. If you are 19 or over please call our Employer Services team for advice and guidance on funding and eligibility.

Future opportunities

This can lead to careers as PE Technician, Sport Coach, School Sports Instructor, Children’s Activity Leader or Physical Activity Instructor.
