Physical Education - A level at Turton High School & Sixth Form College
Physical Education will look into your sporting knowledge both theoretically and practically. With such a diverse course, expect to be challenged. You will be introduced to new topics which have not been completed before at GCSE PE, such as skill acquisition, and build on GCSE Biology and GCSE PE experience in topics such as Anatomy and Physiology Subjects studied include:
Anatomy & Physiology: The skeletal and muscular systems, motion and movement, the cardiovascular and respiratory systems in relation to the performance of physical activity.
Skill Acquisition: Classification of motor skills and abilities, the development of motor skills, information processing, motor control of skills in physical activity, learning skills in physical activity.
Socio & Contemporary Studies: Physical activity, sport and culture, contemporary sporting issues.
You will have the opportunity to study independently and to apply your sporting experience to the theoretical area of the course, perhaps matching future career aspirations with your chosen area of study. Physical Education is a versatile and very popular subject with students from all disciplines and sporting backgrounds.
At least a grade B (if taken) but must have a B on the theory paper. If not Additional Science - B. Should be taking part in a regular competitive sporting activity.
