*Business Studies GCSE (One Year) at The Westwood Academy (West Coventry Sixth Form)

Course content

GCSE Business Studies is a one year course. Pupils will have five lessons per week and will cover a range of business related topics. The course will provide pupils with a stimulating, challenging, practical and investigative approach to understanding the dynamics of different businesses.

Entry requirements

Due to the level of maths involved in the finance part of the course, it is recommended that you have a minimum of a Level 5 in Mathsto take this course.

Assessment

Teaching and Learning

Teaching within Business Studies uses a range of different approaches. Pupils will be expected to take part in simulated business situations and role plays. Over the two years, pupils will study the following aspects of business:

  • The nature of business
  • Business structure and organisation
  • Accounting and finance
  • Marketing
  • Production
  • People in organisations
  • Business Activity
  • The economic environment
  • The business environment

ASSESSMENT:

Examination:

Pupils will sit one exam at the end of the year. Pupils will not have the opportunity to re-sit the examination. The exam is worth 75% of the total GCSE grade and can be taken at Fouondation (G - C grades) or Higher (D-A* grades)

Coursework:

Pupils will be expected to complete one piece of coursework. The coursework will account for 25% of the total GCSE grade. The coursework is started after Christmas and has to be submitted for assessment after Easter.
