Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Level 2 at East Kent College

Course description

Perfect if you want to study the theory and practical aspects of routine vehicle inspections, fittings, maintenance repairs and diagnosis and rectification activities.

Course content

You'll learn both the theory and practical aspects of a range of routine maintenance and repair activities in a workshop environment. You will gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, agreeing customer vehicle needs and other skills associated with working in a garage.

You will work on a wide range of vehicle systems including engine lubrication, cooling and fuel systems, chassis systems including brakes, steering and suspension and electrical areas ranging from engine electrics to body electrical systems, including climate control and electrically operated windows and doors. All tools and equipment from basic hand tools to the latest computer-aided diagnosis and scanning equipment are used and hybrid vehicle and engine training rigs are available for practising larger jobs.

All training and assessment is carried out by Automotive Industry trained and certified practitioners.

This Study Programme will include English and maths at an appropriate level, and it will support the development of skills towards employability and suitability to progress onto the next level of study.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grades D, including maths and English. Students may be able to progress from the Progression Curriculum or Level 1 vocationally related programmes.

Assessment

Continual written and observational assessments are carried out in both the theory and practical aspects of the course. Written and online examinations will also take place.

If you are 16-18yrs old at the start of the Study Programme, it will be free. There may be additional payments required for trips, visits and other materials. For adult learners (over 19) financial support towards the costs of your Study Programme may be available. Eligible students may be able to get help with course related costs such as travel, equipment and childcare.

Future opportunities

On successful completion, you could progress on to our Level 3 Study Programme or a Level 3 Apprenticeship. Alternatively you could seek employment in the local motor vehicle repair industry.
