Business Accounting and Finance Level 3 at West Suffolk College
A second year option for those studying for the Business Extended Diploma, and have a keen interest in numbers and an analytical mind. The world of accountancy is vast and the principles learnt on this course can be taken into any field/industry as it is highly applicable to every business. All businesses need an accountant or financial person in some capacity, but even if you fancy the film industry as a career aspiration, they too require an accountant! With this course, the world is your oyster and with 480 possible UCAS points, lots of university options will also open up!
This second year option covers 9 modules, of which 3 are heavily accounting focused.
These include Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Accounting Systems (including Sage). Business Accounting will be studied in year 1 and these three additional modules will extend all knowledge learnt so far, diving in to the realms of a Management accountants role vs a Financial Accountants role. A student will understand the differences between the two career paths, as well as appreciate the similarities. Financial Capability modules will help you understand the importance of financial understanding in everyday life, from the immediate use of debit cards, through to the long term sources of finance with mortgages. You will learn how to appreciate debt and manage it, and how we can be impacted by unforeseen circumstances, yet also having tactics to manage these. Assessment is via 4 exams.
Any student aged 16 to 19 who does not hold a GCSE A* to C (9 to 4 on the new grading structure) or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English by age 16 will need to continue to study these subjects in each academic year.
You will need to hold GCSE Maths and English at Grade C (4) or above. In your first year of your Extended Diploma, you will need to have gained top grades D*D* and have an excellent attendance and punctuality record.
The main qualification is BTEC Business Extended Diploma, nested with IFS Level 3 Certificate (CeFS) in Financial Capability or IFS Level 3 Diploma (DipFS) in Financial Capability, depending on whether the certificate has been achieved in the first year of the qualification.
Successful students may wish to progress either to university or into a workplace.
