Course description

A Level 2 Award in Construction and the Built Environment offers a learning experience that focuses on applied learning. Students will acquire and apply knowledge, skills and understanding through purposeful tasks set in a context of real work in the construction industry. The learning contained in this award is made relevant and with a purpose of enthusing, engaging and motivating students to study how buildings are constructed.

Topics studied in this award includeSafety and Security in Construction, Practical Construction Skills and Planning Construction Projects. Practical Construction Skills accounts for half the course and include small projects such as dry walling, skimming, door hanging, plumbing, painting and bricklaying.

Assessment is through one on line exam and two internal assessments that are task and evidence based.

Entry requirements

There is no specific requirement for prior learning with this course as it builds on the skills, knowledge and understanding acquired at Key Stage 3. Successful completion of this qualification could provide the student with opportunities for further study through level three qualifications, apprenticeships, and entry level jobs in the construction industry.
