Performing Arts Level 3 Extended Diploma at Carlisle College

Course description

This course develops skills in acting, dancing and singing. Learners will take a variety of options in order to complete their chosen qualification. Many of the units are project led. This gives the learners the opportunity of developing skills and techniques in relation to a performance or showing.

The course focuses on further performance studies and more specialised areas of theatre and dance as a follow on course from the 90 Credit Diploma. This will allow students to explore the industry in more depth, allowing them to refine their focus to a particular area of the industry.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved a Merit at least from your 90 Credit Diploma. You must also have a C grade in English and Maths.

You will be expected to attend an interview and group workshop. This will take place in the final term of your 90 Credit Diploma.


Most assignments are a mixture of practical and written work. You will prepare performance showcases and productions demonstrating the skills you have acquired. You will build portfolios of work that provide evidence of your understanding for assessment.

The courses are continuously assessed; you will gain credits for individual units on the qualification as you go.

Future opportunities

After completing the Extended Diploma, learners may wish to progress onto Higher Education or go to work within the Performing Arts industry. Previous learners have become successful actors on stage, teachers, cabaret performers, holiday park entertainers and holiday reps working abroad. Students from this year of the course have been accepted into accredited drama schools such as Central School of Speech and Drama, Rose Bruford, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Birmingham School of Acting and Guildford School of Actin
