Computer Science BTEC Diploma Level 2 at Hugh Baird College

Course description

The course is a practical, work related course where you will learn by completing assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. It will introduce you to your chosen employment area and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work related qualification.

The programme also includes studying Maths and English towards GCSE grade A-C if you do not already have these grades.

Entry requirements

In order to qualify for this course, you will need:

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D or above

Or

  • A relevant Level 1 qualification at Merit or above and be working towards GCSE Maths and English at grade A*- C

Entry to all courses are subject to a successful interview, a satisfactory reference from your school or employer and evidence that you will be a committed student.

If you are aged 16-19, this qualification will form a substantial part of your study programme. The study programme has been designed to ensure that young people are fully equipped and ready to move on to the world of work or higher level courses. In addition to your main qualification, will you also get the opportunity to undertake relevant and CV bolstering work experience out in your chosen industry. You will also be supported through maths and English qualifications.

      The Merseyrail Bootle Oriel Road station is only a two minute walk from the College campus. This station is on the Northern Line and offers easy access to the College from Liverpool, Crosby, Formby, Southport and other areas.

      The closest motorway junctions are the M58 1a/ M57 Junction 7 – 3.7 miles (6km). Then follow the A59 towards Liverpool for approximately ten minutes, turning right onto the A5058 at the first roundabout, which leads onto Balliol Road.

      Students can also travel to College on regular bus services from Southport, Formby, Crosby, Old Roan, Maghull, Litherland, Netherton, Litherland, Queens Drive and Liverpool City Centre.
