Course description

Why choose Business Studies?

The course will give students the specialised skills to help them progress to any university degree or career they wish. Further (degree) study of Business, Business Computing, Management, Marketing, Human Resources, Strategy. Management training programmes with national organisations.

What does the course involve?

In Year 12, students study many of the issues involved in starting in business, including the research and planning needed to successfully start a business and the factors that determine success. Once students have learned how to plan and finance a business, they will learn how to manage an established business and how to make it a success. They will gain an appreciation of different aspects of business including the marketing function, the role of accounting and finance, issues relating to people within organisations and the principles of operations management.

In Year 13, students build upon the knowledge they acquired in Year 12 by considering more complex business scenarios and focusing on strategy. They will look at how larger businesses trade in international markets and how managers might measure the performance of the business. They will focus on functional strategies that larger businesses may adopt to achieve their objectives before studying the impact of change on a range of businesses and how change can be managed effectively.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade C or above in English Language, Maths and Business.
