A Level Biology at The Windsor Boys' School

Course description

Biology is the study of life/all living things and as we all know life is not simple! The current curriculum contains a great deal of Chemistry.

The course enables pupils to study most of the topics that they have studied at GCSE level in greater depth along with new topics and to study life as it is seen under the electron microscope as well as through a whole ecosystem.

At A.S. Level the modules to be studied and the assessment opportunities are as follows;
Cells, exchange and transport
Molecules, biodiversity and health
Practical skills in Biology 1

At A2 Level the modules to be studied and the assessment opportunities are as follows;
Communication, homeostasis and energy
Control, genomes and environment.
Practical skills in Biology 2

Entry requirements

The current curriculum contains a great deal of Chemistry. Therefore to meet the challenging demands of this course, pupils wishing to study Biology at AS level should have passed their GCSE Biology and Chemistry (Separate Sciences) at grade B or above. Pupils from the ‘Additional science’ programme of study will also need a minimum of B grades in their Biology and Chemistry modules, and have achieved a B grade for Science overall.
