Religious Studies at Heartlands Academy

Course description

The subject invloves gaining and developing knowledge of key muslim beliefs and practices. Students will undertake an indepth look at the life of Muhammad and the history of Islam. There will also be a requirement for independent research and further reading around the subject matter to develop student`s understanding. Students will need to be pro-active learners and will need to examine and analyse key issues in Islam. Students will also be required to be aware of key teachings in the Qur`an and Hadith, and be able to apply their understanding on topics being studied. Career paths could be any job working with or dealing with people in the community. E.g. teacher, international relations, theology and politics. This Specification is designed to encourage students to: • develop their interest in and enthusiasm for a rigorous study of religion and relate it to the wider world; • treat the subject as an academic discipline by developing knowledge, understanding and skills appropriate to a specialist study of religion; • adopt an enquiring, critical and reflective approach to the study of religion; • reflect on and develop their own values, opinions and attitudes in the light of their learning.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five A* - C grade GCSE's including English and Religious Studies.
