Vehicle Technology (Motor Sports) Level 3 Extended Diploma at East Surrey College

Course description

The course aims to provide the technical knowledge and skills required by today’s retail motor industry alongside the study of motorsports. It covers systems found on a modern vehicle and the associated background studies. This qualification involves both theory and practical learning at a challenging level. At least one track day is involved with this course and we would encourage students to volunteer with local race teams for further experience.

 Function and Operation of Vehicle Petrol Injection Systems
 Operation and Testing of Vehicle Electronic Ignition Systems
 Vehicle Engine Management Systems
 Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
 Professional Practical and Logistics for Motorsports
 Operation and Maintenance of Light Vehicle Transmission Systems

Entry requirements

Students must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above in the core subjects (to include Maths, English & Science) and attend a satisfactory interview.

Assessment

The coursework is assessed by assignments, presentations and observations. This course focuses heavily on theory and this is reflected both in the workshop and in assignments. The course encourages students’ initiative and self-assessment.

Financial information

If you are under 19 on 31/08/2016, tuition is free. If you are 19 or over please consult Client Services for advice and guidance on funding and eligibility.
Please be aware that there may be additional costs for equipment and educational visits. This information will be available from the curriculum staff at interview.

Future opportunities

This course provides a progression route for entry to university (Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma) or into employment in the motor industry. Due to the nature of the written assignments it gives a good basis for learners to progress into business management/development positions.

Equipment needed:
 
Pens, pencils, calculator, lever arch folder and recommended text books. For all workshop activities you will need to have your own steel toe capped boots and 1 piece overalls.
