Course description

City and Guilds qualifications have a good reputation within the horticulture industry. This course contains a good mixture of theory and practical work at level 3.

Course content

The main qualification within the course is the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Horticulture. It contains both theory and practical work. Students will gain a knowledge of soil science, plant biology and cultivation techniques. The course is open to 16-18 year old students and to adults. 16-18 year old students will additionally study English and maths and develop their employability skills. The course will include work experience for 16-18 year olds.

Entry requirements

Students should have at least 5 GCSEs, grades A*-C including English and maths or a Level 2 Diploma plus English and maths at Level 2.

Assessment will be mainly by assignments.

Future opportunities

Progression can be directly into employment in gardening services, ground maintenance and plant production. Some students will progress into further study at Level 4 - degree level studies or HNC.
