Geography AS/A2 Level at Deyes High School

Course description

Geography is an exciting subject encompassing our Natural World and the impacts humans have upon it. You will study a range of current issues and events through topics such as Natural Hazards, Population, World Cities and River Management.

You will be taught within a well-resourced and highly successful and popular department where staff have a proven track record for getting the best from students in lessons and exams

Course content

Geography is taught through a variety of challenging and enjoyable lessons. You will work within groups exploring a range of material from video clips to up to date articles on content. You will be well prepared for exams and will be provided with extensive feedback regularly to help you improve your skills of analysis and evaluation.

You will be provided with course textbooks to help you achieve a top grade. We will organise two fieldtrips for you in Year 12. The first will be to the River Wyre in Lancashire where you will complete a study of how the river changes as it travels downstream. The second is a residential trip to the Holderness Coast, where you will see a range of coastal features and management first hand.

Entry requirements

Grade B in Geography, then Grade C in Maths and English.


All exams will take place in the summer exam series.

At AS you will complete two exams; Unit 1 – Physical and Human Geography based on knowledge and understanding of the following units; Rivers Coasts Population Health Unit 2 – Skills and fieldwork based on your study of The River Wyre.

At A2 there are also two exams; Unit 3 – Contemporary Global Issues based on your understanding of; Tectonic Hazards Weather and Climate Development and Globalisation World Cities Unit 4a – Skills and fieldwork – a more in depth look at your River study and the use of skills within Geography.

Future opportunities

Geography is recognised as an academic facilitating subject and will help you to access the best university courses. Geography at A Level or degree level will teach you a range of skills transferrable to many careers such as Teaching, Law, Medicine, Dentistry, Journalism.
