Chemistry IGCSE (Distance Learning) at National Extension College *Fees Payable*

Course description

This home study course will introduce you to the basic principles of chemistry and prepare you for the Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry exam. If you intend to study any science in any capacity, an understanding of chemistry will provide you with a good foundation on which to build your knowledge. Our IGCSE Chemistry course looks at the make-up of matter, the way different chemicals interact and form bonds, and some of the chemical processes that bring about changes in chemical structure. If you are thinking of a career in engineering, food processing, pharmaceuticals or medicine, knowledge of chemistry is essential.

You should allow for between 120 and 150 hours' study time, plus additional time for completing assignments. You will have tutor support for a period of up to 18 months from the date of enrolment.

Further information

This course is entirely self-contained so no additional textbooks are required.

As chemistry is essentially a practical subject, some of the activities and assignments will involve basic experiments. These may be simple observations or they may be experiments that require apparatus you can find in your home, such as candles, batteries and yeast. Occasionally you may need to buy some equipment, such as test tubes or a thermometer: a full list of all the equipment you'll need will be included with your materials. No laboratory access is required.
