Psychology A level at The Bushey Academy

Course description

The study of psychology develops an awareness of the variety and complexity of the human mind, human behaviour and human relationships. It promotes the understanding of self, other people and moral behaviour as well as looking at cultural differences and similarities.

The A-level course provides students with the opportunity to acquire several transferable skills. Students will participate in a variety of tasks from conducting their own psychological research to discussing and debating at length several moral dilemmas and ethical issues that underpin all areas of psychology.

Course content

The course will help you develop a number of skills such as how to view the world around you from different perspectives, how to plan and conduct scientific investigations into human behaviour. How to analyse and interpret data, Critical reasoning skills and a strong set of communication skills to help put across your point of view fluently.

AO1: Knowledge and understanding of science and of How Science Works: Recognise, recall and show understanding of scientific knowledge and select, organise and communicate relevant information in a variety of forms.

AO2: Application of knowledge and understanding of science and of How Science Works: Analyse and evaluate scientific knowledge and processes. Apply scientific knowledge and processes to unfamiliar situations including those related to Issues. Assess the validity, reliability and credibility of scientific information.

AO3: How Science Works – Psychology: Describe ethical, safe and skilful practical techniques and processes, selecting appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods. Know how to make, record and communicate reliable and valid observations and measurements with appropriate precision and accuracy, through using primary and secondary sources Analyse, interpret, explain and evaluate the methodology, results and impact of their own and others’ experimental and investigative activities in a variety of ways.
