Creative Media Production and Technology UAL Level 2 at Truro and Penwith College

Course description

The UAL Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology (CMPT) will provide you with an introduction to a broad range of creative and technical skills in media production. The qualification has been designed to provide you with a sound base of skills, knowledge and understanding which will enhance self-confidence and impart an understanding of the career demands and opportunities within the exciting and dynamic creative media industries.

The course incorporates a strong element of vocational learning to provide you with the necessary understanding, knowledge and skills for future progression and employment. You will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of media – TV, filmmaking, radio, animation, photography, graphic design, social media, marketing – often in the form of ‘live’ or ‘real-world’ briefs and assignments where you will explore, develop and test your creativity within a stimulating and demanding environment.

The course will provide you with opportunities to develop and utilise broad, transferable skills through encouraging an ethos of personal and professional development. We expect you to demonstrate initiative, independent inquiry, creative thinking, reflective learning, team-working, self-management, effective participation, problem solving and communication in order to reach your creative potential.

The course is structured around 8 hours of Media and a further 8 hours of work towards English and Mathematics qualifications, plus a one hour tutorial slot.

The course lasts for one year and is likely to appeal to those seeking to complete a period of practical study alongside additional work in English and Mathematics at either GCSE or Functional Skills level.

Entry requirements

The course is designed primarily, for 16–18 year olds who are getting started with a full-time Media experience. We recruit on the basis of your anticipated ability to successfully complete the requirements of the qualification and we recommend that you have a minimum of 4 x GCSEs at grade D or above.

Assessment

The Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology is made up of seven mandatory units and one optional unit – the Personal Project.

It is intended that the Diploma is preceded by study for the Award. In successfully completing the first two units of the course you will receive the Level 2 Award. Those successfully completing all 8 units of the course will receive the Level 2 Diploma.

The final unit of the qualification will be graded as a pass, merit or distinction. This grade will be the overall grade awarded for the qualification.

The Diploma is a full Level 2 qualification and is broadly equivalent to 4 x GCSE at grade C or a BTEC First Diploma.

Future opportunities

The course will enable you to develop a portfolio of work that could support progression into  courses at Level 3, usually Creative Media, Photography or Art and Design. Alternatively you could choose to progress onto an apprenticeship or an Employability pathway
